The crew from Texas is here now putting down the gym floor. They have been here for a day or two preparing the floor and laying it. Once the floor is in place we will lock the place up tight for about a week. During that time no one will enter the building!
As with any new building we have many little things to do. I believe most of the touch up painting is complete. Mrs. Sue Thompson is painting murals. There are a few oversized electrical outlet cover plates that need to be installed. There is a myriad other small things that need to be done.
We have a few bigger things to do too. We are working on the Dedication and Grand Opening of the ARC. We have nearly nailed down Sunday, August 12 for the Dedication and the following Saturday, August 18 for the Grand Opening. As we develop the plans for those events I will post in this space. So, stay tuned!

Finalizing the ARC

Kevin has taken several dozen new pics. I have replaced the slide show with the Flick-a-Pic widget. This will give you a chance to check out lots of photos. You can check out the newest photos as a slideshow if you prefer.
As you can see in the photos the Youth room is now carpeted. That upper room is going to really rock! I can't wait to see how that place fills up.
The folks are scheduled to be here tomorrow to lay the gym floor down. Once the floor has been laid the ARC will be locked up for a week or ten days in order to let the adhesive dry. During that time we will just press forward!

Equipping the ARC
Last night Cleary approved monies for making several purchases to equip the ARC. The short list is a projector system for the Youth Area, with an upgrade to the projector system in the sanctuary, sports equipment, kitchen tools, and chairs, tables, and whiteboards. Now for the breakdown:
Projector system: Kevin Wade will get a dual-projector system installed for the Youth Room. This projector system will include the projector currently being used in the sanctuary, with a new bulb, as well as a new, comparable projector.
Sports equipment: All the gear to set up a basketball court and two volleyball courts. We are talking about nets, poles, backboards, balls, and a portable scoreboard! This will go a long way to Upwards sports!
Kitchen tools: Knives, ladels, serving utensils, sheet pans, cleaning gear. All the kitchen tools that would be used in order to serve about one hundred people. While this does not include silverware, plates, or glasses, it does allow us to get started.
Chairs, tables, and whiteboards: Some of the chairs, and tables would go into the classrooms along with all of the whiteboards. At this time we are expecting to put about twenty chairs per classroom. One line of thought regarding the chairs and tables in the classroom is to allow the classes to "buy" the chair or table as a gift for the ARC. The remainder of the chairs and tables would go into the dining hall. These tables are six feet in diameter and should seat eight. I believe we are looking at forty tables in the dining hall. Forty times eight... three hundred and twenty...
God is so good!
